About me
Hello again.

I’m Theo, a linguist with a particular interest in workplace conversations.
I help leaders work with colleagues better, and teams to communicate more effectively – especially when speaking to ‘outsiders’.
As an academic I’ve taught courses in Language and Linguistics for some 40 years, mainly in UK universities, but also abroad.
My interest lies in ways language is used in different settings and situations.
I’ve worked with education, healthcare and management professionals from all over the world, to improve communication styles and leadership skills, across cultures and languages.
Theo Maniski, SFHEA, MA (Applied Linguistics), BA (Linguistics), DTEFLA, CTEFLA.
I have a first class honours degree in Linguistics from UCL, an MA in Applied Linguistics (TESOL), an RSA/ UCLES Diploma in TEFLA, and a Certificate in TEFL. I trained teachers in the UK and abroad for over 30 years.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance UK) and for many years served as coach and mentor for university colleagues seeking Fellowship and Senior Fellowship.
As a linguist, I’m interested in the ways words, expressions and silence are used in workplace conversations.
I’m familiar with a variety of settings, like hospitals, classrooms, boardrooms, and lecture halls.
As previous Head of the Department of Language & Communication, I’m no stranger to the challenges faced by middle managers in large organisations.
I fully recognise the significance of inspirational leadership, and its impact on colleagues and teamwork.
Professional bodies
I’ve been a member of the OCR English Consultative Committee for over 10 years, working in Cambridge on GCSE and A-Level English Exam curricula.
I currently serve as an External Examiner for the University of Portsmouth’s UG and PG Courses in English Language and Teacher Training.
I’m also a member of SIETAR and the BAAL Health and Science Communication Special Interest Group.
Want to know more? Just ask.

Let me show you how to improve the quality of conversations between colleagues and with those who interact with your setting.
